HOSUG InstallFest

Our friends at HOSUG (the Hamilton Open Source User Group) are hosting an installfest! Let's go and help out. From their site:

We have another interesting Open Source project presentation this month.
Are you interested in a $2.50 phone line at home? How about I throw in enhanced features like "follow me", voice menus, multiple extensions and voice mail for your staff or teens? Finally how about being able to use off the shelf hardware, open source software, and your choice of provider?
Sound too good to be true! It's not, but there is work involved.

Introduction:
Wow! A graphics extravaganza!!!
We'll start with the basics of The GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation Program) and learn how to start using this pixel-based image program.
Then we'll shift into 3D gear and look at Blender for 3D modelling, animation and rendering.

We're thrilled to have Dr. Peter Salus join us for this meeting. Peter has held many positions and roles in his distinguished career. He can be described as author, professor, historian, executive, pundit, journalist and raconteur. He is currently publishing his next book A History of Free and Open Source: The Daemon, The GNU & The Penguin on Groklaw.

This month, our very own Raul Suarez presents the nuts and bolts of the XDG menus specification from Freedesktop.org.
Doc Robinson, from the University of Toronto, teaches a course in Open Source GIS. He's going to show us what it is all about.

Jim Elliott is a long-time friend of Linux and Open Source. His official title is "Advocate - Infrastructure Solutions and Manager - IBM System z9 and zSeries Operating Systems, IBM Canada Ltd.."
