openNetcam open source project is recruiting developers

A new open source project has started with the aim of producing an
open framework for embedded Linux based video camera systems.

http://www.opennetcam.net/

Developers in this project will get to play in a very diverse sandbox. The framework itself will be layered on top of the ultra lightweight SIMPL toolkit (http://www.icanprogram.com/simpl) and when completed will be essentially a webservices lite.

help shape open software procurement policies

I saw a link to this request for information by chance in another forum. Perhaps, it might be interesting to contribute to the government's policies on using open source software.

"help the Government of Canada (GC) put together guidelines related to the planning, acquisition, use and disposal of No Charge Licensed Software (NCLS)"

"the procurement of any of the goods and services described in this RFI will not necessarily follow this RFI"

SIMPL project makes a significant release of its Python toolset

The SIMPL project (http://www.icanprogram.com/simpl) aims to bring the simplicity and power of the Send/Receive/Reply messaging (first pioneered by QNX) to the Linux world.

SIMPL modules are themselves Linux executables and can be written in any number of languages now (C, C++, Tcl/Tk and Python). A SIMPL application consists of one or more of these modules interacting in a single SIMPL sandbox. A SIMPL application can consist of SIMPL modules written in a mixture of supported languages.

OpenLaszlo Presentation material

Here is the presentation material for the OpenLaszlo presentation

I'm attaching just the files I created for the actual development environment and java SDK please go directly to the official download sites.

To install just follow the instructions included on slide 7 of the impress presentation.

To be able to execute my demo applications just do the following:

  1. copy the kwlug-lang and kwlug-splash folders to the lps-4.1.1/Server/lps-4.1.1 folder

book on the SIMPL project now available

A few years back I gave a talk at KWLUG on the application of the SIMPL framework to deeply embedded network appliances.

These ideas and others have finally been collected into a book about this 10 year old open source project.

My other little problem in Debian etch 4.0R3

I freshly installed Debian 4.0R3 on my laptop a couple of days ago and I have a wireless network card for it.

Apt Sources.list question

I'm curious i've been running Debian Etch 4.0 on my desktop machine for a year now and yesterday I checked the sources.list file and compared it to a fresh install of Debian Etch 4.0R3 on my laptop's sources.list file and it say's stable in the laptops sources.list file which is fine and all but my desktop machine has been having a problem for quite some time i'm curious if if this problem is the reason for what i'm experiencing on my desktop machine!

dsl on usb pen drive???

Hello was just wondering if anyone is using damn small linux or has used in the past, I just downloaded the latest version 4.0rc3 and I also just picked up a usb pen drive from my local the source store here in cambridge. Has anyone installed it on usb pen drive? If so do i have to make partitions on the pendrive that I have or does dsl do it itself i.e create root partition then ask for the user to create home partition etc. I am unsure how to go about this process, being this is the first time i'll be trying this. The pen drive has a capacity of 2GB's. The price was right 32 $ for 2GB's.

Movie night Revolution OS

Hello

Perhaps we can get a copy of Revolution OS and watch it. At this point I do not know where we can get a copy, but I will search library catalogues. I hope that we can show it at a meeting without paying extra.

MythTV trouble

I've been playing with KnoppMythRD50 on a machine with the following specs:

Asus A7N266-C motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4GHz) CPU
256MB DDR PC2100 (I have 512MB of PC2700 coming)
250GB PATA hard drive
Hauppage PVR 150 with IR-Blaster
ATI X1300 256MB AGP video card
10/100 NIC
Viewsonic 19" widescreen LCD

I signed up with Zap2it, and KnoppMyth appears to have correctly found all my channels. The problem I'm finding is that playing or recording media doesn't seem to work. I tried playing a show and just got a black screen on my LCD. Is it possible to display out to monitor/LCD or do you have to configure Component/S-Video out?
